Switching up your routines helps you from getting bored, while also confusing your muscles, not letting your body adapt and get used to certain workouts helps you to burn the most calories.
Treadmill Challenge
We often say it is best to get 30-45 minutes of cardio at a time, 4-5 times a week. Some people have a really hard time finding the cardio exercise that works best for them. Well, I have a great suggestion!
We’ve all heard of the treadmill but do we all know how to use it? There are many options that come standard on most treadmills. They may include speed, incline, and number of preset training options.
Everyone doesn’t need to run as fast as they can to get a good workout. As a matter of fact, I’ve recently been challenging myself to walk. Yes that’s right, walk!
The hope is that I can condition my body to walk “briskly” for an hour at a time. The definition of brisk changes from person to person but is typically higher than 3.5. I usually start at 3 and go up to 6.
Another variable I play with is the incline. You would be surprised at how differently you would feel just by elevating the treadmill. I now try to see how high I can go while also raising the speed. It turns into a sweaty walk very quickly!!
So now is my time to challenge you. Use the options on the treadmill. Find what works best for you. Challenge yourself. Push yourself. I guarantee that you will be pleasantly surprised with your results.
You will soon see a growth in cardio-endurance as well as muscular endurance. The treadmill challenge is a great thing to throw in the middle of your workout week to shake things up a bit. As always, be sure to stretch and ENJOY!!
