If you’ve ever wondered how to bring the convenience of a workout to your home, look no further than a live streaming experience straight into your living room. Both the ProForm Vue and the Peloton Guide will allow you to exercise with virtual assistance – but first, let’s discuss some quick benefits.
Working out can improve cardiovascular health, increase strength, improve flexibility, mobility, balance, and coordination, improve sleep health, improve sleep health, and decrease stress levels – to name just a few benefits.
Current guidelines suggest that most Americans aim for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise a week (and 75 minutes if you’re working out at a vigorous level). These totals can seem intimidating but can be achieved with even three blocks of 10 minutes worth of activity a day. That’s where a virtual home gym system can be beneficial.
The ProForm Vue and the Peloton Guide are two popular fitness brands today that allow you to experience virtual trainers and thousands of streaming workouts – all of which can help you reach your fitness goals and knock out those exercise minutes!
ProForm Vue
The ProForm Vue comes in at $999 and includes a 30-day trial of iFit (which then rolls to $39 a month after the trial is over). This membership to iFit allows access to thousands of on-demand classes and virtual personal trainers that will push you along and give you the motivation you need to complete your workout! You can choose from classes such as kickboxing, HIIT, yoga, and even recovery sessions.
These workouts can be viewed on the 22″ high definition touchscreen on the front of the Vue, allowing you to see the instructor while also seeing your reflection as you exercise. When the Vue is not in use, the screen turns off and almost mimics a mirror with its reflective surface – perfect for not making your home workout space evident to others.
The footprint of the Vue is 24.25″ W x 14″ D x 72.65″ H, while the reflective surface itself is 24″ x 60″. With dual 3″ speakers that are Bluetooth compatible, you’re sure to find a workout plan to stick to with the Vue!
The Vue comes with a 10-pound barbell, two 5-pound dumbbell bars, and four 2.5-pound weight plates to help kickstart your exercise journey, all of which can be hidden in a storage area behind the Vue.
Peloton Guide
The Peloton Guide starts at $295 and does not include the Peloton All-Access membership, which is $24 a month. This membership is necessary to access thousands of classes and workouts, as well as the Self Mode and Movement Tracker for the Guide.
The Guide is essentially a camera that you can connect to your television, allowing you to see yourself on the TV screen while you work out. For example, when you switch to Self Mode, you can see yourself side by side with a virtual trainer – and thus allowing you to see the correct form (and then match it).
A built-in Movement Tracker credits you for finishing workouts, regardless of how long it takes you to complete. The tracker allows you to see what muscles you’ve already worked (for example, if you’ve done a lot of lower body, then the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and calves will be lit on the Body Activity tracker) and what muscle groups still need to be engaged.
The Peloton Guide comes with the Guide itself, a remote control, a mount for the TV (or a tabletop), and HDMI/power cables. The Guide weighs about 18 ounces and has dimensions of 6.5″ L x 2.5″ W x 1.7″ H. With a 4k resolution and Bluetooth wireless technology, you’ll be able to bring your workout right into the living room – just make sure you have about 4.5′ x 6′ of space to move.
The Bottom Line
Both Proform and Pelaton make high-quality equipment with excellent warranty coverage and customer service. What you need depends on how much space you have in your home and your price point.
The Peloton Guide might work if you have a TV in an area with plenty of room for the extra equipment you need. But if you don’t the Proform Vue may work better as it can be put in a dedicated room or space just for exercise. The Vue comes with basic workout equipment that can be stored in a drawer for convenience.
