Many people struggle with finding time to workout. Whether it’s the chaos of working, going to school or being a parent, finding some time for a workout is a little difficult sometimes. Lifehack.org posted a great list of ways to make time for fitness, but I’m going to add a few of my own.
Firstly, turn off the TV. Instead of lazing about watching your favorite program, why not go out for a run? You can get a great workout in 30 minutes.
This same principal applies to the internet. Most people spend an hour or so on the internet each day. If you simply cut that in half and spend 30 minutes working out, you’ll still get enough time to update your Facebook status and check your email.
On second thought, turn the TV back on. There are many treadmills with screens built into them, and you can watch Hulu, Netflix or YouTube on them, or you can spend a little time on Facebook. Being able to watch your favorite shows or surf the internet while exercising are great motivational tools.
If you don’t even have time for internet or TV as it is, then you might want to ask for some help. It’s okay to let your mom or neighbor watch the kids for 45 minutes while you go running and shower afterwards. They’ll enjoy visiting the family, and you’ll get a worry-free workout!
Most everyone has 10 minutes here and there of free time. Why not use that to go for a short walk? Whether it’s a little extra time during your lunch break at work or your kids are about to get home from school, finding 3 of these 10-minute pockets of time will add up to a 30 minute workout each day. That’s certainly doable!
You can also combine exercise and transportation. This could be riding your bike to work, walking to the coffee shop, parking at the far end of the parking lot, or taking the stairs instead. All of these sneaky ways to exercise don’t take that much longer than driving (especially when heavy traffic is involved).
One of my favorite methods for fitting fitness into my life is the Treadmill Desk. If you have a desk job, ask your boss if you can replace your desk with one of these. It’s basically a treadmill with a tabletop instead of a console, and the controls are on the armrests. They usually don’t go more than 3 or 4 miles an hour, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally hitting the wrong button and sending yourself flying into the next cubical! If your boss will go for it, I definitely recommend a treadmill desk.
These are just a few ways you can fit a little more fitness into your life. Any other techniques you have found successful? As always feel free to leave a comment and tell us about your fitness tricks.
