Many people have asked themselves this question before. Should go running for 20 minutes? 45? When is it enough?!
In theory, the longer you exercise the better, since you’ll be burning more calories. However that may not be the case.
“In the study, participants who exercised for 30 minutes a day for three months lost just as much weight and body fat as those who exercised for an hour a day for the same time period” (Click here for more).
There are more factors that influence weight loss then how much time you exercise. For example, the intensity of the exercise is important to consider. You will get a much better workout if you run at a higher incline.
Another thing to consider is that every body type is different. One person won’t lose weight the same way as another because our bodies aren’t all the same – one person might have more muscle than another, even though they might weigh the same.
Diet is extremely important too. The quality of food eaten has a great impact on your weight loss. If you go running for 5 miles each morning and eat McDonalds for every meal, you aren’t going to lose weight. If you are eating a diet full of fruits and veggies, whole grains, and low-fat meats and dairy, you’re going to see better results.
The study speculated that a 60 minute workout makes you hungrier, so you’re putting those calories right back into your body. A 30 minute workout is enough to burn some calories and make you feel rejuvenated.
This definitely makes sense! The results are interesting, but I think a more vigorous collection of data is needed. They need to monitor the entire day’s activities, like sleeping habits, diet and other exercise.
