Staying fit does not have to cost a fortune. Budgets are tight in this strained economy and many people do not have the extra finances for costly gym memberships. However, there are many cheap ways to stay fit without having to spend a great deal of money. Many alternatives are free.
Do a Gym Class at Home
When it comes to finding a good aerobic workout, there are many videos available online free of charge that can give a person the satisfaction of working out without the hefty price that adds up at the gym. In addition, DVDs are available in many department stores that are at an affordable price. Many are as low as $10 and will make you feel like you have an instructor in your living room. It will be much harder to avoid doing the daily routine when all it takes it the push of a button to get started whenever there is room in your schedule.
Make Use of the Outdoors
The great outdoors is free of charge and there are so many ways to stay fit. Going for a jog or daily walk, hiking and cycling are all excellent ways to take care of the body and enjoy it as well. Most people would prefer a change in scenery rather than staring at a screen or the walls in the house. Instead of buying a stair master, find a good set of steps in town and take them a few times. Try out the local tennis courts. If there’s a community pool, go for a swim at a low cost. The key is to get moving. If you can get the whole family involved, even better.
Get Creative
Look for creative ways to boost your workout without having to break the bank. Water bottles or canned goods work as weights. Filling two large bottles and carrying them on a walk will add more resistance. They can also be used during aerobic workouts at home. Also, add more exercise to your day even if it isn’t a designated workout time. Use the stairs at work instead of the elevator. Eat while standing up to avoid too much seat time. Take a few more trips to the basement when doing laundry. If you’re on the phone, walk around the house while you talk to get in a little more cardio work. You’ll keep the blood pumping and calories burning. The best part is it doesn’t cost you a dime.
Many people think they don’t have the time or money to get fit and think the only way is to start planning that liposuction but if you get creative and make full use of your surroundings you can get fit on a budget.
