The past year has made some notable shifts in the way we interact and spend our days. One of the ways we’ve shifted is the way we work out. According to ACSM, there have been massive shifts in fitness trends in 2021 due to the pandemic. Let’s take a look at what the top trends are.
Online Training
The number one trend this year is, hands down, online training. Whether you’re following an app on your phone or have hired a personal trainer to distribute your plan virtually, online training has become increasingly popular this year due to lockdowns around the world.
The crazy part? Now that gyms are opening back up, people are still choosing to work out from home electively due to the convenience and rise of awareness of online platforms. It used to be confusing, complicated, or unrealistic to get a good workout from home, but now many have experienced the benefits and efficiency of doing so.
Home gyms
Along with online training, home gyms are being built out around the globe. If you’ve tried to purchase gym mats or dumbbells online, you know that equipment is hard to come by now that everyone wants a home gym.
Apps
While a home gym is convenient and safe, it can still be challenging to develop a daily workout that doesn’t get boring and targets your fitness goals. Fitness apps have become increasingly popular, from HIIT, bodyweight, strength training, recovery, running, yoga, and even meditation have become popular in the app development space.
Tech equipment with virtual classes
A few years ago, it seemed crazy to purchase a $1500+ machine to use at home. But, when gyms closed down, equipment such as the Peloton and other high-tech fitness equipment became increasingly popular. Now, you can join live and on-demand fitness classes all in the comfort of your home while still benefiting from the extra motivation from friends and fitness professionals in a virtual studio or virtual outdoors.
Bodyweight Movements
With the rise of functional fitness and at-home workout trends, bodyweight movements are on the rise. Squats, pull-ups, push-ups in all forms and variations are great cardiovascular and strength workouts.
Outdoor Workouts
Again, due to Covid-19, outdoor workouts have become more popular. Running, hiking, biking, and distanced outdoor fitness classes are prevalent nowadays.
This year, we got creative when lockdowns were put into action. It forced us to become innovative, creative and bring our fitness home. These top fitness trends are unique in 2021, but we don’t see them going away any time soon.
