If you are a runner, then you might have wondered where you should put your phone when you are out logging miles. Aside from just leaving it at home – or setting it on the console of your treadmill – there are a few different ways that you can run with your phone and have it be out of your way as you are pounding the pavement.
We’ll break down just a few of the methods that runners can utilize to keep their phone handy on the run – and each way will suit every runner differently….so with that being said, if you don’t like one of the options, try another!
Granted, the options that we’re going to discuss don’t involve carrying it in your hands or shoving it down your sweatpants or sports bra; on the flip side, there are ways that you can conveniently and safely take your phone with you. But if your pants pocket works best – do it! Just be aware that your phone may fall out, or it might get in contact with sweat and cause possible damage.
Do You Need Your Phone?
So, why do you need to carry your phone at all with you? There are several reasons – for one, you can contact someone if you need help, which is a crucial factor for carrying a phone (especially if you are by yourself, or are running in a new area). This is also true in case you are injured and can’t make it back to base.
Phones can also track your distance, calories, heart rate, etc., and provide GPS if needed. Lastly, your phone is an excellent tool for helping you make it through your miles with music. Some people also enjoy podcasts while they run, so any kind of easy entertainment while running is helpful for many people.
How To Carry Your Phone
Waist Belts
There are multiple styles of waist belts for runners; these slim belts hold everything from your phone and keys to water and wallet if needed. If using a waist belt, just ensure that it is secure around your waist before running; this will help keep the belt in the proper place (and not mess up your stride) and be more comfortable.
Koala Clips
For those women who like the convenience of their phone on their torso, Koala clips hook to your sports bra. Out of the way, but easily accessible if needed! There is a pouch with the clip that helps to keep your phone safe from sweat and a magnetic clasp that holds it onto the back of your sports bra.
Armbands
There are several different brands of armbands for running, but the idea is the same across the board – to have your phone located in a band that can fit securely against your forearm or upper arm. Some are designed with clips, while others have velcro, and the size of your phone will dictate the size of the armband you need. If going this route, ensure that your armband is water-resistant so that sweat and elements won’t ruin your phone as you run.
Different Options for Every Runner
Although these are only a few of the different ways you can carry your phone while you run, they are some of the most popular choices. Other ideas include a pocket in leggings or pants that have a zipper (or a deep pocket), along with a running jacket or shirt that has a pocket specifically for a phone.
Just make sure that any clothing that can carry your phone has a way to secure your items without having them fall out mid-run! Whichever option you choose, keep it comfortable and safe – so you can enjoy your run!
